Size Guide

Sizing in a nutshell

  • Three sizes: Kids, Women’s and Men’s. Most styles offer all three.
  • Some exceptions: a few styles come in Women’s and Men’s only, one kids face sock comes in Kids only, and the knee-high lounge socks come in Women’s only.
  • No number chart yet: we do not publish a shoe-size or measurement chart. Email us and we will confirm the exact size range for the style you are looking at.
  • Between sizes? Fuzzy and slipper socks fit roomier; illusion prints look best snug.
  • Mixed sizes in one pack: list who gets which size in the order notes.
  • Wrong size? Use the 60-day return route to swap it. Change-of-mind returns get a free label.

The three sizes we make

Every Sock Joy product that asks you to pick a size uses the same three labels: Kids, Women’s and Men’s. You will see them as buttons above the Add to cart button. Pick one, and the price updates if the size changes it.

The labels describe sock sizes, not who is allowed to wear them. Plenty of women wear Men’s socks because they have longer feet or like a looser fit, and plenty of men with smaller feet are happy in Women’s. Teenagers often land in Women’s. Choose by foot, not by label.

Kids

The smallest size, for children. It is the size to pick for school-age kids in a family set, for a “first day of school” pair with a parent’s face, or for little stocking fillers. Very young children and older kids can fall at the edges of the range, so if you are buying for a toddler or a tall twelve-year-old, email us and we will confirm the range for that style.

Women’s

The middle size. It is the most popular choice and the size most products show first. It suits most adult women and many teenagers, and it is the sensible default when you are buying for an adult with smaller feet.

Men’s

The largest size. Pick it for adults with longer or wider feet, whoever they are. Groomsmen socks and retirement socks are often ordered in Men’s, but there is a Women’s option on those too.

Exact size ranges for each style can be confirmed by email. Write to support@sockjoy.shop with the product name and the shoe size of the person who will wear the socks, and we will tell you which size to pick.

Styles with a smaller size menu

Most styles come in all three sizes. A handful do not, either because the design only makes sense at a certain size or because it is sold as a set.

Women’s and Men’s only

These styles have no Kids option: the Knee-High Face Socks, the Grandkids Face Socks for Grandpa and Grandma, the Cozy Slipper Socks with Initials, the Groomsmen Socks with Name, Role and Date, and the Officially Retired Face Socks. If you want a matching kids pair for one of these moments, look at the custom face socks or the family and couple socks, which offer Kids in most styles.

Kids only

The Kids Face Socks with a Parent’s Photo come in one size, our Kids size, so there is nothing to choose on that page. For the same idea in adult sizes, the Tiny Faces Pattern Crew Socks offer Women’s and Men’s.

Women’s only

The Knee-High Lounge Socks with a Pet Portrait come in one size, our Women’s size. They are long, soft lounge socks, so there is no size button on that product.

Sets with a default size mix

A few sets are sold as one product with a preset mix of sizes, and you adjust it in the order notes:

  • His and Hers Couple Face Socks Set: one Women’s pair and one Men’s pair by default. Need two of the same, or a Kids pair instead? Say so in the order notes; the price stays the same.
  • Mom and Me Matching Socks Set: one Women’s pair and one Kids pair. For Dad and Me, write “Men’s instead of Women’s” in the notes.
  • Pet Parent Sock Bundle: two Women’s pairs by default. Want Men’s, Kids, or one of each? Write it in the notes.

Picking the right size, step by step

  1. Think about whose feet these are. Not who is paying, not the label on the gift tag. The actual feet.
  2. Start from their everyday socks. If they usually buy women’s socks off the shelf, start with Women’s. If they wear men’s socks, start with Men’s. For children, start with Kids.
  3. Check the style. Is it a crew, ankle or knee-high sock? Fuzzy or regular? Is it an illusion print? The sections below explain how each one changes the choice.
  4. Still unsure? Email us with the product name and the wearer’s shoe size. We will confirm the exact size range for that style.
  5. Choose the size button, then check out. If the product is a pack or set with several sizes, write the size list in the order notes.

When someone sits between two sizes

Between sizes is common, especially for teenagers and adults at the top of Women’s or the bottom of Men’s. The right answer depends on the style:

  • Fuzzy and slipper socks: these already fit roomier, so the smaller of the two sizes is usually comfortable.
  • Funny feet illusion prints: bear paws, chicken feet and dinosaur claws look most convincing when the sock sits snug and the print lines up with the foot. Lean towards the smaller size.
  • Crew face socks: if the wearer likes a relaxed fit, or has broad feet, go up. If they like socks that hug, stay down.
  • Knee-high socks: leg length matters as much as foot length. Taller wearers often prefer the larger size so the cuff sits where it should.

Lengths and fabrics change the fit

Size is only half the story. Where the sock stops on the leg, and how thick it feels, both change how it fits and how the design looks.

Ankle or crew?

Some styles, such as the Pet Name and Paw Print Socks and the Valentine Hearts Face Socks, let you choose Ankle or Crew. Ankle socks hide under trainers and keep the design low and discreet. Crew socks show off more of the print, which is the point for most face designs. If the person loves showing their socks under rolled-up trousers, crew is the way.

Knee-high styles

We have three knee-high designs: the Knee-High Face Socks (Women’s and Men’s), the Christmas Name Knee-High Socks (Kids, Women’s and Men’s) and the Knee-High Lounge Socks with a Pet Portrait (Women’s only). Knee-highs are long, so the leg of the wearer matters. If you are unsure whether a knee-high will reach the right spot on someone very tall or very petite, email us and we will help.

Cozy, fuzzy and slipper socks

The cozy and slipper socks are made for lounging. They feel thicker and fit roomier than a regular crew sock. That makes them forgiving if you are not sure of a size, and comfortable for people who dislike tight cuffs.

Funny feet illusion prints

The funny feet socks turn feet into paws, claws or hooves. The joke works best when the toes of the print sit at the toes of the foot, so a snug fit is better than a baggy one. If the socks are a gag gift and you do not know the size at all, Women’s is the safest middle choice.

Buying a gift when you do not know the size

Most of our socks are gifts, and most gift buyers are guessing. Here is how to guess well.

  • Peek at their sock drawer. Or their shoe rack. One shoe size is enough for us to recommend a sock size.
  • Ask a partner or parent. They usually know, and they are often in on the surprise anyway.
  • Use the middle size. For an adult you know nothing about, Women’s is the safest middle pick for most styles. For someone you know has big feet, choose Men’s.
  • Pick a roomier style. Fuzzy crew socks and slipper socks forgive a wrong guess better than an illusion print.
  • Remember the safety net. If the size is wrong, the socks can come back within 60 days. Change-of-mind returns get a free return label, and there is no restocking fee.

Secret Santa and office swaps

For a swap where you do not even know who will open the parcel, avoid a face that only one person will understand and pick a style that suits anyone, such as funny feet or a holiday design, in Women’s or Men’s depending on the group. Order early: processing is 1-3 business days and transit is 7-14 business days.

Family packs and mixed sizes

Some products are sold as packs: the Family Names Crew Socks (1 to 4 pairs), the Groomsmen Socks (1, 3 or 6 pairs) and the Holiday Stocking Stuffer Sock Pack (2, 4 or 6 pairs). The size button on these products sets the size for the pack. If you need different sizes inside one pack, use the order notes.

Here is a family example. You order the Family Names Crew Socks in a 4 pair pack for a holiday photo: two kids, one adult in Women’s and one in Men’s. In the order notes, write a clear list:

  • Pair 1: Kids, name “Mia”
  • Pair 2: Kids, name “Leo”
  • Pair 3: Women’s, name “Anna”
  • Pair 4: Men’s, name “Tom”

We will follow the list exactly. If you want to check that a mix is possible for a specific pack before you order, email us. The same list format works for groomsmen packs: name, role and size on one line per person.

Wedding parties

Collect everyone’s sock size, or shoe size, before you order, and leave a buffer before the wedding day. A size problem found the week of the wedding is stressful; one found a month before is easy to fix.

When the size turns out wrong

It happens. A teenager grew over the holidays, or Grandpa’s feet were bigger than everyone thought. Size exchanges go through our normal return route:

  1. Email us within 60 days of delivery with your order number and the size you need.
  2. We send return instructions, and for a change of mind, a free return label.
  3. Once the return arrives, we refund within 7 days to the original payment method, or give you store credit if you ask for it. Store credit never expires.
  4. Order the new size, either with your refund or your store credit.

Because every pair is personalized, a new size means a new pair is made from your notes. Tell us if the new pair should use the same photo and wording, so you do not need to resend everything. The full steps are on Returns and Exchanges and the money side is on the Refund Policy.

Caught the wrong size within 24 hours of ordering? Then it is not a return at all, just a change. Email us straight away and see Cancel or Change an Order.

Ask us about sizing

We would rather answer a sizing question before you order than arrange a swap afterwards. Email support@sockjoy.shop with the product name and the wearer’s shoe size, and we will confirm the size range for that style. We reply within 24 hours on business days.
