Guide 1: send a photo link that actually opens

Because personalisation happens in the order notes, your photo arrives as a link. A link that only works for you is the number one reason orders get stuck. Follow these steps and your photo reaches us on the first try.

  1. Pick the original photo. Use the photo file itself, not a screenshot of it. Choose a bright, sharp picture where the face looks toward the camera.
  2. Upload it to a cloud service. Google Drive, Dropbox, iCloud and OneDrive all work. Put the photo in its own folder if you are sending several.
  3. Open the sharing settings. Look for “Share” or “Get link”. Change the access from “Restricted” or “Only people invited” to “Anyone with the link can view”.
  4. Copy the link. Use the copy button, so the whole link is captured. Partial links do not open.
  5. Test it in a private window. Open a private or incognito browser window, paste the link and press enter. If you see the photo, it works. If you see “access denied” or a sign-in page, go back to step 3.
  6. Paste it in the order notes. Put a label next to each link, for example “Photo for Men’s crew socks: link”.

What we do if a link fails anyway

If we cannot open your link, we email you and ask for a working one, and production waits until we have it. Check your spam folder in the days after ordering so our message does not get lost. If the timing matters, for example a Secret Santa swap on a fixed date, a working link from the start saves you days.

Photos that print well

We print what we receive and do not send a proof. A dark, grainy picture stays dark and grainy on a sock. For pets, get down to eye level and take the picture near a window. For people, avoid sunglasses and heavy shadows. One clear face per photo makes it easy for us to use exactly the face you meant.

Guide 2: order a family pack with mixed sizes

Matching socks for a holiday photo or a family reunion are a joy, as long as everyone’s pair fits. Packs come in 1 to 6 pairs, and you tell us the sizes in the order notes.

  1. Count the feet. Write down who is getting socks and how many pairs you need in total.
  2. Choose a size for each person. Use the Size Guide to decide between Kids, Women’s and Men’s. Check the product page, because some designs come in Women’s and Men’s only.
  3. Pick the pack. Choose the pack size that matches your total number of pairs.
  4. List it in the order notes. One line per person works best, for example: “Dad: Men’s. Grandpa: Men’s. Mum: Women’s. Aunt Jo: Women’s. Mia: Kids. Leo: Kids.”
  5. Add the photos and names. If every pair carries the same face, one photo link is enough. If each pair is different, label each link with the person it belongs to.
  6. Read it back once. Count the lines and make sure they add up to the pack size before you place the order.

If the photo day is fixed

Add up processing and transit: 1 to 3 business days plus 7 to 14 business days. Order early enough to cover the longest time, and leave a buffer for weekends and holidays.

Guide 3: send socks as a gift to another address

Many of our socks never touch the buyer’s feet. They go straight to a birthday, a stocking or a retirement party. Here is how to send them to someone else.

  1. Enter the recipient’s address as the shipping address. Use their full name and address, for example Grandma’s address in Canada. We ship to the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
  2. Use your own email address. Confirmation and order emails come to you, so the surprise stays a surprise.
  3. Add a short note if you like. Use the order notes to mention that the order is a gift.
  4. Check the timing. For a birthday or a holiday, count the full processing and transit time, and remember a parcel to Australia or New Zealand can take the full 14 business days.
  5. Tell the recipient about returns, if you want. The person who receives a gift can start a return themselves within 60 days of delivery and ask for store credit.

Gifts for a wedding party

Groomsmen socks with the wedding date are a lovely keepsake. Send them to whoever is collecting them, and order with a comfortable buffer before the day, so there is room for a size swap if someone’s feet are bigger than expected.

Not sure which socks to choose?

Half of the questions we get are really “which pair should I buy?” Here is a quick map of the shop by the person you are buying for.

Memorial socks for a pet

If you are ordering socks in memory of a pet, take your time with the order notes. Write the name and years exactly as you want them, and choose a photo you love. If anything about the finished socks does not feel right, write to us and we help, gently and without fuss.

Your order status and account

You do not need an account to order, but it makes keeping track easier, especially if you buy socks for several birthdays a year.

  • Check status: enter your order number and email on Order Tracking, or sign in to My Account.
  • Want an update? Email us with your order number and we tell you where your socks are in the process.
  • Lost your confirmation email? Search your inbox and spam folder for “Sock Joy”. If it is not there, email us from the address you used at checkout.
  • Parcel taking longer than expected? Delivery can take up to 14 business days after processing. If that time has passed, email us and we help you with the next steps.

Write an email we can answer in one go

Support is by email only, and every message is read by a person. A few details in your first email save a lot of back and forth.

Always include

  • Your order number, found in your confirmation email and in My Account.
  • The name and email address used at checkout, if you are writing from a different address.
  • A subject line that says what you need, like “Name change, order 1234” or “Return request, order 1234”.

Add for your situation

  • A change within 24 hours: the exact new text, spelt exactly as you want it printed.
  • A new photo link: the link, and which item it belongs to.
  • A return: which pairs are coming back and whether you want a refund, store credit or another size.
  • A problem with the socks: a short description and a clear photo.
  • A gift return: the buyer’s name and the delivery address if you do not have the order number.

A sample message

“Subject: Name change, order 1234. Hi Sock Joy, I ordered Kids crew socks for my grandson about 3 hours ago and typed Olivr instead of Oliver. Please change the name to Oliver. Thank you!” Sent within the 24-hour window, a message like this is all we need to fix the order before printing.
