Returns & Exchanges Policy
Last updated:
Socks are supposed to make someone grin. If a pair from Sock Joy does not, send it back. You have 60 days, you do not need a reason, and we pay for the return label. That includes personalised socks with a face, a pet or a name printed on them. This page walks you through the return and exchange process step by step: who can start a return, how to ask for one, how to pack the socks and what happens once they are on their way. The money side (how much, how fast and where it goes) lives on its own page, our Refund Policy.
Sending socks back: the short version
- Time to ask: 60 days from the day your order was delivered.
- What can come back: every pair we sell, personalised socks included, for any reason, change of mind included.
- Return postage: paid by Sock Joy. We email you a free return label, even when you simply changed your mind.
- Restocking fee: none.
- How to start: email support@sockjoy.shop with your order number. We reply within 24 hours on business days.
- Exchanges: for another size, place a new order for the size you need, or ask us and we help you set it up.
- Gifts: the person who received the socks can start the return too.
1. Your 60 days, and what they cover
The 60-day window starts on the day your parcel was delivered, not the day you placed the order. All you need to do inside those 60 days is email us and ask for a return. You do not have to explain yourself, fill in a long form or prove that anything is wrong.
Holiday orders get the full window too
Stocking stuffers often sit wrapped for weeks. If your Christmas socks were delivered in early December, your 60 days run well into the new year, so there is time to unwrap them, try them on and decide. Check the delivery date in your confirmation emails or in Order Tracking if you are not sure when the clock started.
Personalised socks are included
Personalised socks are not an exception here. A pair of crew socks covered in your boss’s face, knee-high socks with a pattern of tiny cat faces, or slipper socks with a grandchild’s name on the cuff can all come back within 60 days. We know a personalised pair cannot be sold to someone else. We still think you should not be stuck with socks that did not work out.
Change of mind counts
Here is a real-life style example. You ordered chicken-feet illusion socks for a white-elephant swap, opened the parcel, tried them on and decided they are not funny after all. That is a perfectly good reason. Email us, we send a free return label, and the chickens go back in the post.
Every collection, every pack size
The same rule covers all our collections, from custom face socks and pet face socks to holiday socks and sock gift sets. It also covers packs of 1 to 6 pairs. You can return one pair from a pack or the whole pack.
2. Asking for a return, step by step
Every return starts with an email. There is no return portal and no automatic label button, so a quick message to a real person is the fastest route.
- Find your order number. It is in your order confirmation email and in My Account if you created one at checkout.
- Write to support@sockjoy.shop. A subject line like “Return request, order 1234” helps us spot it quickly.
- Tell us which socks are coming back. Name the design, the size and how many pairs, for example “2 pairs of Men’s dog-face crew socks from a 4-pair pack”.
- Say what you would like instead. A refund, store credit, or a different size or design. If you are not sure yet, say so and we explain the options.
- Add a reason if you like. It is optional. “Changed my mind” is fine. If something looks wrong with the print or the pair, a photo helps us understand what happened.
- Wait for our reply. We answer within 24 hours on business days with your free return label and the return address.
Please do not post socks back before you hear from us. A parcel without a label we issued is hard to match to an order, and that slows everything down for you.
A template you can copy
“Hi Sock Joy, I would like to return order 1234. Items: 1 pair of Women’s cat-face ankle socks. Reason: changed my mind. I would prefer a refund. Thanks!” Swap 1234 for your own order number and the details of your socks.
3. Packing your socks for the trip back
Socks are small, light and hard to break, so packing is easy. A few habits make sure the return is matched to you quickly.
- Use any sturdy envelope or small box. The original mailer works well if it is still in one piece. A padded envelope is plenty.
- Keep pairs together. Fold each pair together, or tuck one sock into the other, so nothing gets separated.
- Add a note with your order number. A slip of paper inside the parcel with your name and order number is the easiest way to link it to your request.
- Return the right pairs. If you are returning part of a family pack, check that the pairs in the envelope match the ones you listed in your email.
- Stick the label on flat. Print the free return label we email you and attach it to the outside so the barcode is not folded or covered by tape.
- Keep your drop-off receipt. If the post office or drop-off point gives you a receipt, keep it until your return is complete.
Washed or worn socks? Tell us in your email. We would rather know up front than be surprised, and it helps us handle your request properly.
When to send the parcel
Returning from Canada, Australia or New Zealand
We ship to the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, and the 60-day window and free return label apply in all four countries. A return from Auckland or Perth travels a long way, so it can take a while to reach us. That is fine: what counts is that you asked for the return within 60 days of delivery. If a customs form is needed for the trip back, we tell you how to fill it in when we send your label. Describe the parcel simply, for example “returned socks, 2 pairs”.
Returning part of an order
Ordered a 6-pair pack for the whole family and only the toddler’s pair is wrong? Send back just that pair. List exactly which pairs are coming back in your email, and the rest of the pack stays with you. The free label covers partial returns too.
We give you the timing for sending the parcel in the email that comes with your label. If you need more time, for example because you are travelling over the holidays, just reply to that email and let us know.
4. Exchanges: another size, another design
The most common exchange is a size swap: Kids socks that turned out too small for a growing ten-year-old, or Women’s socks that would fit better as Men’s. You have two easy ways to do it.
Option 1: place a new order yourself
Order the size or design you want from the shop as a normal new order, then return the first pair with the free label. This is usually the quickest route, because your new socks start production straight away instead of waiting for the old pair to travel back. Remember to type the same names, dates and photo links in the order notes box of the new order, because each order is printed exactly from its own notes.
Option 2: ask us to help
If you would rather not place the new order yourself, tell us in your return email which size or design you want instead. We reply with what to do next and help you set it up.
Choosing the right size this time
Our socks come in Kids, Women’s and Men’s, and some designs come in Women’s and Men’s only. Before you swap, have a look at the Size Guide for tips on choosing between two sizes, especially for teenagers and for anyone who prefers a looser fit.
| What you want | Fastest route | What to include |
|---|---|---|
| Same design, different size | Place a new order, then return the first pair | The new size and the same order notes as before |
| Different design or collection | Place a new order, then return the first pair | New order notes for the new design |
| Not sure what to swap to | Email us first | Your order number and who the socks are for |
| Part of a family pack | Email us with the pairs you want to change | Which person, which size, how many pairs |
5. Gifts and returns from the person who received them
Socks are a gift most of the time, and gift returns should not be awkward. If someone sent you socks from Sock Joy and they are not right, you can start the return yourself.
- Email us with the order number if you have it. If you do not, give us the name of the person who sent the gift and the delivery address, and we find the order.
- We send the free return label to you, so you do not have to ask the buyer to handle it.
- The refund itself follows the Refund Policy. The person who received the gift can ask for store credit, which keeps the surprise a surprise.
Example: you sent a pair of fuzzy slipper socks with Grandma’s cat on them to her address in Canada. They are lovely, but the size is snug. Grandma, or you on her behalf, emails us within 60 days of delivery and we take it from there.
Memorial and sentimental orders
If you ordered memorial socks for a pet who has passed away and something about them feels wrong, please tell us, even if it is hard to put into words. We handle these requests gently and help you decide whether a return, a new pair or something else is best.
6. After your socks reach us
Once your parcel arrives, we check that the pairs match your return request. We then email you to confirm and carry out what you asked for: a refund, store credit or help with your exchange. We do not publish a fixed number of days for this check, because it depends on how busy the season is. If you have not heard from us a few days after your parcel was delivered to us, email us and we tell you exactly where things stand.
If you chose a refund, it is sent to your original payment method within 7 days of your return reaching us. For the details of what happens to the money next, see the Refund Policy.
Something did not arrive right?
If your socks arrived damaged, the print looks wrong, or the pair is not what you ordered, contact us and we help. Tell us your order number and what you see, and add a photo. We work out the next step with you.
7. Before your order ships: change it instead
If you spot a problem soon after ordering, you may not need a return at all. Within 24 hours of placing your order you can ask us to change or cancel it. Say you typed “Emmma” instead of “Emma” on a pair of grandchild socks and notice it three hours later: email us and we correct the order notes before printing. If you notice two days later, the order is outside the change window, and a return or a new order is the way forward. Details are on Cancel or Change an Order.
A tip that saves returns
We print exactly what your order notes say, and we do not send a proof first. Double-check spelling, dates and photo links before you place the order. Make sure any shared photo link is set so anyone with the link can view it, otherwise we cannot open it.
8. Questions about a return
Email support@sockjoy.shop and we reply within 24 hours on business days. Support is by email only, and every message is read by a person. You can also check the FAQs, the Help Center and our Shipping & Delivery page.
