Payment Methods

Last updated:

Paying for socks with your dog’s face on them should be the easiest part of the whole adventure. This page explains how payment works at Sock Joy: which methods you can use, what currency prices are in, how sales tax is handled, how checkout is protected, what to do if a payment does not go through, and how refunds find their way back to you. It applies to every order placed on sockjoy.shop.

Paying for your socks, at a glance

  • Available methods: the payment methods shown at checkout are the ones available for your order.
  • Currency: all prices are in US dollars (USD).
  • Sales tax: Sock Joy does not collect sales tax at checkout.
  • Shipping: free on every order to the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, with no minimum.
  • Secure connection: the whole site, including checkout, uses an encrypted HTTPS connection.
  • Refunds: to your original payment method within 7 days of receiving your return.
  • Questions: email support@sockjoy.shop; we reply within 24 hours on business days.

Which payment methods you can use

The payment options available for your order are always displayed on the checkout page, after your cart and shipping details and before you confirm. Whatever you see there is what Sock Joy can accept for that order. If a method is not shown at checkout, it is not available for that order.

We keep this page general on purpose. The options at checkout can change over time as we add or adjust payment providers, and checkout always shows the current, accurate list. That way this page never promises you a method you then cannot find.

Ways we do not take payment

We do not take payment by email, by message, in cash or through a link sent in a support reply. All payment happens on the checkout page of sockjoy.shop. If you ever receive a message asking you to pay for a Sock Joy order anywhere else, do not pay; forward it to support@sockjoy.shop.

If no method appears at checkout

If you reach checkout and cannot see any way to pay, please do not try to work around it. Email us with the products in your cart and the country you are shipping to, and we will help you place the order.

Prices, currency and what you pay

All prices on sockjoy.shop are shown and charged in US dollars. A single pair, a family pack of up to six pairs and a sock gift set are all priced in USD, and the checkout page shows your order total before you confirm.

Paying from Canada, Australia or New Zealand

If your bank account or card is in Canadian, Australian or New Zealand dollars, your bank or payment provider converts the USD amount into your currency. The exchange rate, and any foreign transaction or conversion fee, is set by your bank or provider, not by Sock Joy. The final amount on your statement can therefore differ slightly from the USD total at checkout. If you send socks to Grandma in Canada from a US account, there is no conversion at all; you pay the USD amount shown.

Shipping is included at no charge

Shipping is free on every order to our four delivery countries, with no minimum spend and no code to enter. You will not see a separate shipping charge added at checkout. Delivery times and details are on our Shipping & Delivery page.

How sales tax is handled

Sock Joy does not collect sales tax at checkout. The total you see at checkout is the amount charged by the store. We do not state that prices include tax, and we do not calculate or add tax for your location.

For parcels going to Canada, Australia or New Zealand, any import duties, taxes or customs fees depend on the destination country and its rules at the time of delivery. Where they apply, they are set by the destination country, not by Sock Joy. If you are unsure, it can help to check the local rules for small personal parcels before ordering, and you are always welcome to email us with questions.

When your payment is taken

Your payment is taken when you place your order and the payment is confirmed. We only start preparing personalised socks once payment is confirmed. Until then, the order shows as pending payment in My Account and on the Order Tracking page, and nothing is printed.

Keeping checkout secure

The whole of sockjoy.shop runs on an encrypted HTTPS connection, so the information you enter at checkout travels between your browser and the site in encrypted form. You can see this in your browser’s address bar, which shows the address starting with https and a padlock or similar symbol.

Payments are handled by the payment provider behind the method you choose at checkout. Depending on that provider and on your bank, you may be asked to confirm a payment in an extra step, such as approving it in your banking app or entering a one-time code. That step comes from your bank or provider and is there to protect you.

Simple habits that keep you safe

  • Only enter payment details on the checkout page of sockjoy.shop.
  • Never send card numbers, security codes or passwords in an email to us, even if you are trying to be helpful. We will never ask for them.
  • Use a private, trusted network for checkout rather than shared public Wi-Fi where possible.
  • Check the web address in your browser before you pay.

How we handle the personal details you share with us, including your name, address and email, is explained in our Privacy Policy. The photos you link in your order notes are deleted 30 days after delivery.

If your payment does not go through

Sometimes a payment is declined or fails part-way. That can be frustrating when you have just spent ten minutes choosing which photo of the cat looks the most dignified. The good news: a failed payment does not place a paid order, and your socks are not printed until a payment succeeds.

Common reasons a payment fails

  • The billing name, address or postal code does not match what your bank has on file.
  • The card or account has expired, or the details were mistyped.
  • There are not enough funds, or a spending limit has been reached.
  • Your bank flagged the payment as unusual, which can happen with international or first-time purchases.
  • The extra confirmation step was not completed, or the page was closed before it finished.
  • The connection dropped while the payment was being processed.

What to do next

  1. Check the details you entered and try again.
  2. If it fails again, contact your bank or payment provider; they can see exactly why the payment was stopped.
  3. Try another method shown at checkout, if one is available.
  4. If you are still stuck, email support@sockjoy.shop with the time you tried, the products in your cart and any error message you saw. Do not include payment details.

Charged twice, or charged with no order email?

If you see two charges for one order, or a charge without receiving an order confirmation email, email us with the date, amount and the name on the order. We will check our records and help sort it out. Sometimes a bank shows a temporary hold that disappears on its own; your bank can tell you whether that is the case.

Refunds back to your payment method

Refunds go back to the original payment method used for the order. For a return, we refund within 7 days of receiving the returned socks. For an order cancelled within the 24-hour window, we refund what you paid to the same method. After we send a refund, your bank or provider needs its own time to show it on your statement.

Store credit instead

If you would rather keep the value for your next pair, ask us for store credit. It is available on request and never expires, which is handy if you already know the dog will have a birthday next year. Our Refund Policy and Returns & Exchanges Policy explain the 60-day return window and the free return label for change of mind.

Payment for gift orders and shared purchases

Buying for an office team’s retirement gift or a group of groomsmen? One person places the order and pays at checkout. The billing details belong to the person paying, and the shipping address can be anyone in our four countries. If several people are chipping in, please settle that among yourselves; we can only take one payment per order at checkout. For a gift, add any gift message to the order notes and say clearly that it is a message and not text to print.

Checking orders and price errors

To protect customers and the store, we may occasionally need to confirm an order before we prepare it, for example when the billing and shipping details look very different or a payment raises a question. If that happens, we email you from support@sockjoy.shop and explain what we need. We will never ask you for card numbers, security codes or passwords as part of this check. If we cannot confirm the order, we cancel it and refund what you paid to your original payment method.

If a price was shown incorrectly

We take care to show the right price for every pair, pack and gift set. If a product is ever listed at a clearly wrong price because of a mistake on our side, we will email you before preparing the order and offer the choice to continue at the correct price or cancel with a full refund. Nothing is charged beyond what you agreed to at checkout.

Changing what you bought after paying

Within 24 hours of ordering you can ask us to change names, photo links, sizes or the address. If a change would affect your total, we tell you first and only continue once you agree. See Cancel or Change an Order for the full rules.

A small payment checklist before you click

  • Cart: the right designs, sizes (Kids, Women’s, Men’s) and pack sizes.
  • Order notes: names, dates and photo links typed in, with links set so anyone with the link can view.
  • Billing details: the name and address your bank knows, which is not always the same as the gift recipient’s address.
  • Total: the USD total on the checkout page, with free shipping already applied.

Discount codes

If you have a valid discount code, enter it in the coupon field at checkout before you pay. The new total shows before you confirm. Codes cannot be added after an order has been placed. Promotion terms are covered in our Terms of Service.
