Faces on feet, and that is the whole idea

Sock Joy is a small online shop with one job: putting the faces, pets and names you love onto socks. That is it. We do not sell T-shirts, mugs or phone cases. Every product in the store is a personalized sock, a set of personalized socks, or a gift pack of them.

Why socks? Because socks are the easiest gift to give and the hardest gift to forget. A tie can go in a drawer. A pair of crew socks covered in your golden retriever’s face gets worn on a Monday, shown off at lunch and photographed for the family group chat. Yes, that’s your dog. On your feet.

Most of our customers are buying for someone else. They are hunting for a Secret Santa present with a price limit, a Father’s Day surprise, a stocking filler that will make the whole living room laugh, a retirement gift from the office, or matching socks for the groomsmen. Some are pet parents who simply want to see their cat every time they look down. All of them want a gift that feels personal without needing a craft weekend to make it.

This page explains what we sell, how personalisation works, who the socks suit, how an order travels from your notes to a doorstep, and the promises we keep along the way. If you want the short version, it is the box above. If you want the long version, pull up a chair and maybe a pair of fuzzy socks.

Eight shelves of personalized socks

The store is organised into eight categories. Each one is a different way to turn a photo or a name into something wearable. You can browse everything at once in the shop, or jump straight to a shelf below.

Custom face socks

Custom face socks are the classic. You choose a style and send us a photo link, and the face goes on the sock. Pick a pattern of tiny faces repeated all over, one big face across the leg, a split design with a different person on each sock, or a knee-high version for extra face per foot. There is also a kids-size pair printed with a parent’s or grandparent’s face, made for first days at school and nights away from home.

Pet face socks

Pet face socks are for dogs, cats, bunnies and anyone else who sleeps on the end of the bed. Choose a repeating pet face pattern, a cat face with a name, a crew sock with up to three pets, a paw print and name design, or a memorial pair with a small halo and wings. Memorial socks are a gentle thing to order, so we treat every name and date in those notes with extra care.

Family and couple socks

Family and couple socks are made to be worn together. Think his and hers face socks where each person wears the other’s face, a mom and me set, family name crews sold in packs, and grandkids face socks for Grandpa and Grandma. These are the ones that end up in holiday photos.

Holiday socks

Holiday socks follow the calendar: Santa hat faces and reindeer antler pets for Christmas, pumpkin faces for Halloween, hearts for Valentine’s Day, and knee-high name socks for hanging-out-by-the-fire evenings. If you are ordering for a holiday, read the timing section below so the socks arrive before the day.

Cozy and slipper socks

Cozy socks are the slower, softer side of the store: fuzzy crew socks with a name, slipper socks with initials, and long lounge socks with one small pet portrait on the side. They are made for reading in bed and padding to the kettle, not for running shoes.

Funny feet socks

Funny feet socks are illusion prints. Pull them on and your feet turn into bear paws, chicken feet with painted toenails, dinosaur claws or horse hooves. They are the white-elephant swap champion and, honestly, the reason some people’s group chats go quiet for a minute.

Occasion socks

Occasion socks mark a moment: groomsmen socks with a name, role and wedding date, birthday confetti face socks, and an “officially retired” pair for the person finally leaving the office. Packs make it easy to dress a whole wedding party in one order.

Sock gift sets

Sock gift sets bundle several pairs into one present: a face sock trio with three designs from one photo, a holiday stocking stuffer pack, and a pet parent bundle with a face pair and a name pair. Sets are the shortcut when you would rather not pick three products one by one.

How personalisation works here

There is no upload button on our product pages and no design app to learn. Personalisation happens in one place: the order notes box at checkout. That keeps things simple, and it means your instructions travel with your order from start to finish.

Step by step

  1. Choose the socks. Pick the style, then the size (Kids, Women’s or Men’s where offered), and any length, pack size, print colour or sock colour the product lists.
  2. Add to cart and check out. You can keep shopping first if you want a few different pairs.
  3. Fill in the order notes. Paste a link to each photo, type each name and date exactly as you want it printed, and say which face or name goes on which pair.
  4. Place the order. Read your notes once more before you press the button. We print what they say.

Photo links that open

We need a link we can open without signing in. A shared Google Drive, Dropbox or iCloud link set to “anyone with the link” works well. A common hiccup: the link is private, and we get an “access denied” page instead of your dog. If that happens, we email you and wait for a working link, which can push back the processing time. Test the link in a private browser window before you paste it.

Photos that print well

Choose a sharp photo, taken in daylight, with the face looking at the camera and no sunglasses. A clear phone photo beats a professional photo that has been screenshot, cropped and sent through three messaging apps. A blurry screenshot of a cat taken at night will still be printed, but it will look like a blurry cat on a sock. If you have two or three photos and cannot decide, paste the one you like best first and say so in the notes.

Names and dates

Type names exactly as they should appear, including capital letters and any accents. If a grandchild is “Zoë” and not “Zoe”, write “Zoë”. For dates, write them the way you want them printed. Because there is no proof step, your spelling is our spelling.

Why there is no proof

We do not send a mockup or a proof before production. Your socks go straight from your notes into the queue, which keeps the process short and predictable. The flip side is that the notes need to be complete. If you are unsure about anything, email us before you order and we will answer.

Who our socks are for

Pretty much anyone with feet and a sense of humour. Here are the people we see most often in our inbox.

  • Gift buyers on a deadline. Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas stockings and office swaps. They need the socks to arrive on time and to make someone laugh.
  • Pet parents. People whose phone gallery is 90 percent dog. They want the dog on the socks, and sometimes the cat on the other sock.
  • Grandparents and grandkids. Grandma wearing six tiny grandchildren’s faces to bingo is a very good day.
  • Families matching for photos. Kids, Women’s and Men’s sizes in one design, lined up on the sofa for the holiday card.
  • Wedding parties. Groomsmen socks with each name and role, plus the date, worn under suit trousers and revealed during the photos.
  • Office teams. A retiring boss, a colleague’s birthday or a team in-joke, bought on one order and handed out at lunch.
  • People remembering a pet. Memorial socks are a quiet way to keep a friend close. Take your time with the notes, and email us if you would like help.

From your notes to a doorstep

Here is what happens after you press “Place order”, in plain steps.

  1. Order received. You get an order confirmation email. Your order also appears in My Account if you checked out with an account.
  2. Change window. For 24 hours after placing the order you can ask us to change or cancel it. See Cancel or Change an Order.
  3. Notes check. We read your notes and open your photo links. If a link does not open or something is missing, we email you.
  4. Processing. Your socks are produced and packed within 1-3 business days.
  5. On the way. Your parcel ships from the USA and spends 7-14 business days in transit to the US, Canada, Australia or New Zealand.
  6. Delivered. Socks on feet. Photos in the group chat.

To check where an order is, use the Order Tracking page or My Account, or email us and we will give you an update. The full detail on timing and destinations is on Shipping and Delivery.

A note on deadlines

Add processing and transit together and the full window is roughly 8 to 17 business days from order to doorstep. If you are ordering dog-face socks for a Secret Santa swap on a fixed date, or groomsmen socks for a wedding, count back from the day and leave a buffer. A parcel to Australia or New Zealand can take the full 14 business days in transit, and weekends and public holidays do not count as business days.

Sending a gift straight to someone

You can ship to any address in our four countries, not only your own. Sending socks to Grandma in Canada? Put her address in the shipping fields and your own email at checkout, so the updates come to you and the surprise stays a surprise.

The promises we keep

We would rather promise a few clear things and keep them than promise everything. These numbers are the same on every page of this site.

Returns, even on personalized socks

Personalized gifts are often non-returnable elsewhere. Ours are not. You have 60 days to send socks back, and if you simply changed your mind, we send a free return label. Bought chicken-feet socks for a swap and decided they were not funny after all? That counts. The steps are on the Returns and Exchanges page and the money side is on the Refund Policy.

Your photos, handled with care

The photos you send are used only to make your socks. We delete customer photos 30 days after delivery. Read the Privacy Policy for the full picture. Please only send photos you have the right to use; our Intellectual Property Policy explains why we cannot print celebrities, team logos or licensed characters.

No surprises at checkout

Shipping is free, so the price you see on the product page is the price of the socks. The payment methods shown at checkout are the ones available for your order; the Payment Methods page explains how payment works.

Who you are buying from

Sock Joy is an online store. We sell through this website only, and we answer every message by email. We do not run a phone line or live chat, so the inbox is where all the help happens.

That address is for written notices. Please do not post returns to it unless we have sent you a label that says so; the return process starts with an email. The Terms of Service explain the rules that apply when you order, and they are governed by the laws of New York.
